From the courses available below, the HorseSafe Induction can be accessed by self-enrolment. Access to all other courses will need to be coordinated by Team Thoroughbred NSW Training Academy after confirmation of your enrolment in the relevant course.

    Racing Industry participants who are completing the HorseSafe Industry Induction must first register and pay the $35 induction fee at the Racing NSW website.


    This Stable Skills Short Course reflects the role of new entrants to the racing industry. It provides an introduction to the racing industry and allows for specialisation in sectors or roles, including Stablehand (thoroughbred).


    The RGR20218 Certificate II in Racing Industry (Stablehand) as a 12-month full time traineeship program, delivered over 48 weeks. The program involves both scheduled classroom learning activities and workplace-based training and assessment. This program provides learners with skills and knowledge required in the handling and the care and training of Thoroughbred horses, and to improve their employment opportunities.

    The RGR30218 Certificate III in Racing (Stablehand) as a 48 week, 12 month full time traineeship program. The program involves both scheduled classroom learning activities and workplace based training and assessment. This program provides learners with advanced skills and knowledge required in the handling and the care and training of Thoroughbred horses, and to improve their employment opportunities.


    The RGR30518 Certificate III in Racing (Trackwork Rider) as a  48 week, 12 month full time traineeship program. The program involves both scheduled classroom learning activities and workplace based training and assessment. This program provides learners with advanced skills and knowledge required in order to develop their horse riding skills and knowledge, in addition to the handling, care and training of Thoroughbred horses, and to improve their employment opportunities.


    The RGR40218 Certificate IV in Racing (Jockey) as a 12 month full time traineeship program, delivered over 48 weeks. The program involves both scheduled classroom learning activities and workplace based training and assessment. This program provides learners with advanced skills and knowledge required in order to develop their horse riding skills and knowledge, in addition to the handling, care and training of Thoroughbred horses, and to improve their employment opportunities.

    This qualification reflects those who are working as a racehorse trainer in a thoroughbred racing stable.

    The RGR30419 Certificate III in Racing Services (Cadet Steward) as a 12 month full time traineeship program, delivered over 48 weeks.
    The program involves online and workplace based learning activities and online assessment. This program provides learners with advanced skills and knowledge required in the role as a stipendiary steward for a racing regulatory body and to improve their employment opportunities.

    This program is for Racehorse Handicappers who are undertaking the RGR30419 Certificate III in Racing Services qualification.

    The Barrier Attendant Skills Set provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a barrier attendant in thoroughbred racing.
